So a couple weeks ago, I was in The Knit Shop and the staff ladies were talking about a job opening and jokingly asked me if I was looking for a part-time job. "Looking" wasn't the right word. Basically, I was just spending money like water and hoping a job in a yarn store would just present itself.
Behold, my dumbass plan worked. Just this once, but this was the time for it to work.
Today was my second day in the shop, and while I knew there would be things to learn, I'm realizing really quickly just how much I have to learn. I keep telling people boneheaded ways to do things even when I know better ways to do them. I didn't recognize ribbing and mistook it for a loose stockinette stitch. I had no idea you have to stock the yarn so much. I'm so happy.
A huge bonus is that I get to watch Eugen Beugler knit pretty much every day I'm there. How rad is that? (For those of you who don't know his work, he designed this and that and this.) (Yeah, you try to do that.) (And he's SUCH a nice guy.) (Today he was working with this stunning quiviut-merino-silk blend.) (Okay, you get the point, I'll stop being starstruck now.)
In other news, Mabel and Henry continue to be sweet and wonderful additions to my life. Mabel's feeling clingy tonight and is resting her chin on my knee as I type. I'm gonna go scratch behind her ear.
